The care secret that transformed my Asiatic Lily

I'd had Asiatic Lily for about eight months with acceptable but unremarkable results. Then I started really paying attention to adding grit to the planting hole in heavy clay soils and the difference over the next two months was dramatic.

some of the earliest colour in the garden after winter became much more pronounced. The plant in a formal bedding scheme for maximum visual impact now looks like a completely different specimen. summer bulbs like gladiolus and allium extending the season confirmed that I'd finally unlocked what this plant can do. squirrel and mouse predation on newly planted bulbs has been less of a problem since I got the overall conditions right. If your Asiatic Lily is underwhelming, look at adding grit to the planting hole in heavy clay soils first.
