Honest review: Asiatic Lily is rewarding but bulb rot from waterlogging in poorly drained soil is real
Asiatic Lily is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: bulb rot from waterlogging in poorly drained soil. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, increasing clump size year on year when well established makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a cut flower garden for fresh indoor arrangements which suits it well. Learning about leaving foliage to die back naturally after flowering has been essential. planting new bulbs in autumn for next year's display is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
