Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Daffodil
People describe Daffodil as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. adding grit to the planting hole in heavy clay soils needs consistent attention and narcissus fly larvae tunnelling into the base of the bulb can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Daffodil is genuinely underrated is the beauty. wide range of flower forms, heights, and flowering times is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a mixed border with later-emerging perennials to hide dying foliage and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. planting new bulbs in autumn for next year's display is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
