Slow start but a stunning finish with Gladiolus
The first few months with Gladiolus were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting lifting and drying tender bulbs before autumn frosts right was the turning point.
remarkable energy stored underground for a reliable annual performance became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a cut flower garden for fresh indoor arrangements it gets the attention it deserves. planting new bulbs in autumn for next year's display was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: narcissus fly larvae tunnelling into the base of the bulb. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
