Beginner success with Hyacinth — here is what helped
As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Hyacinth. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to adding grit to the planting hole in heavy clay soils.
I grow mine in a formal bedding scheme for maximum visual impact which is working really well. increasing clump size year on year when well established was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. earliest crocuses and snowdrops emerging in late winter has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring squirrel and mouse predation on newly planted bulbs, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
