The unexpected joy of growing Golden Barrel

I planted Golden Barrel without expecting much and it's become one of the most satisfying things in my garden. remarkable drought tolerance once established is something I couldn't have predicted from looking at it in a nursery. You only understand it once the plant is established and performing.

I keep it in a south-facing windowsill in full sun which is perfect for it. providing the sunniest window or outdoor position available was the thing I got lucky getting right early. flowering in late spring to early summer stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. scarring from cold water splash on the skin is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
