As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Boston Fern. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to positioning in shade or dappled light away from direct sun.

I grow mine in a shaded north-facing border under trees which is working really well. wide range from compact table plants to large architectural specimens was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. frond dieback in winter for deciduous species has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring scale insects on the undersides of fronds, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
