Beginner success with Lady Fern — here is what helped

As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Lady Fern. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to maintaining consistent moisture without waterlogging.

I grow mine in a humid conservatory in a decorative pot which is working really well. exceptional ability to thrive in deep shade was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. early emergence from the soil before most other plants in spring has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring scale insects on the undersides of fronds, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
