I don't have a garden so a hanging basket in a cool bathroom is my only option for Maidenhair Fern. It absolutely works — with the right attention to removing dead fronds cleanly at the base in spring you can get excellent results in containers.

wide range from compact table plants to large architectural specimens is fully achievable even in a pot. early emergence from the soil before most other plants in spring is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: scale insects on the undersides of fronds. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
