Honest review: Maidenhair Fern is rewarding but root bound stunting in pots left too long without repotting is real
Maidenhair Fern is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: root bound stunting in pots left too long without repotting. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, prehistoric elegance with delicate layered fronds makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a woodland garden understorey planting which suits it well. Learning about misting the fronds in dry centrally heated rooms has been essential. full lush canopy through summer is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
