Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Staghorn Fern:

Spring: early emergence from the soil before most other plants in spring. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on misting the fronds in dry centrally heated rooms during this period which set up the rest of the year.

prehistoric elegance with delicate layered fronds developed steadily through the warmer months. frond browning and crisp tips in dry air appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a hanging basket in a cool bathroom performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
