Honest review: Staghorn Fern is rewarding but root bound stunting in pots left too long without repotting is real
Staghorn Fern is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: root bound stunting in pots left too long without repotting. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, exceptional ability to thrive in deep shade makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a hanging basket in a cool bathroom which suits it well. Learning about maintaining consistent moisture without waterlogging has been essential. spectacular new crozier unfurling in spring is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
