Six months with Sword Fern — what I actually learned
I brought Sword Fern home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding misting the fronds in dry centrally heated rooms — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.
I grow it in a humid conservatory in a decorative pot and the position has been ideal. wide range from compact table plants to large architectural specimens is what keeps drawing me back to it. early emergence from the soil before most other plants in spring was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: root bound stunting in pots left too long without repotting caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
