Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Sword Fern

People describe Sword Fern as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. misting the fronds in dry centrally heated rooms needs consistent attention and root bound stunting in pots left too long without repotting can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Sword Fern is genuinely underrated is the beauty. wide range from compact table plants to large architectural specimens is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a hanging basket in a cool bathroom and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. early emergence from the soil before most other plants in spring is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
