Apple Tree is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: biennial bearing producing a heavy crop every other year. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.

Beyond that, blossom spectacle in spring before any other ornamental value makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a large half-barrel container on a sunny patio which suits it well. Learning about formative pruning in the first three years to build good structure has been essential. harvest from late summer through autumn depending on variety is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
