Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Fig Tree
People describe Fig Tree as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. formative pruning in the first three years to build good structure needs consistent attention and late frost damage to blossom in exposed positions can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Fig Tree is genuinely underrated is the beauty. blossom spectacle in spring before any other ornamental value is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a large half-barrel container on a sunny patio and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. blossom opening in spring requiring frost protection is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
