A year of growing Mango Tree — detailed seasonal notes
Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Mango Tree:
Spring: harvest from late summer through autumn depending on variety. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on checking and adjusting tree ties and stakes annually during this period which set up the rest of the year.
harvest of home-grown fruit with exceptional fresh flavour developed steadily through the warmer months. late frost damage to blossom in exposed positions appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a sheltered south or west-facing garden wall as an espalier performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
