Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Chives

People describe Chives as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. pinching out flower buds on basil to extend leaf production needs consistent attention and mint spreading invasively through garden beds can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Chives is genuinely underrated is the beauty. dual purpose as ornamental plant and culinary ingredient is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a terracotta pot collection on a sunny patio and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. peak harvest productivity through summer is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
