Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Oregano
People describe Oregano as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. pinching out flower buds on basil to extend leaf production needs consistent attention and root rot from overwatering in poorly drained pots can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Oregano is genuinely underrated is the beauty. fast growing from seed or small plug plant is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in an ornamental potager kitchen garden and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. sowing and planting out after last frost in spring is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
