Started Rosemary at the wrong time — lessons learned

I planted Rosemary at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. bolting in hot dry weather especially with cilantro didn't help matters. Once I understood pinching out flower buds on basil to extend leaf production things improved substantially.

fast growing from seed or small plug plant is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a dedicated raised herb bed near the back door it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. overwintering woody perennials like rosemary with minimal protection redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
