ZZ Plant is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: fungus gnats in consistently damp potting compost. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.

Beyond that, year-round green presence improving mood and productivity makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in an office desk with a grow light supplement which suits it well. Learning about rotating pots a quarter turn each week for even growth has been essential. slowing down in autumn as light levels drop is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
