I brought Cymbidium home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding repotting into fresh bark medium every two or three years — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.

I grow it in a decorative cachepot for a formal living room and the position has been ideal. pseudobulbs that store water and nutrients is what keeps drawing me back to it. triggering a new flower spike with cooler autumn nights was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: crown rot from water sitting in the leaf crown caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
