Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Oncidium
People describe Oncidium as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. providing bright indirect light away from direct afternoon sun needs consistent attention and scale insects on pseudobulbs and undersides of leaves can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Oncidium is genuinely underrated is the beauty. pseudobulbs that store water and nutrients is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a conservatory shelf with filtered light and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. triggering a new flower spike with cooler autumn nights is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
