Six months with Phalaenopsis — what I actually learned
I brought Phalaenopsis home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding feeding with a half-strength orchid fertiliser weekly in summer — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.
I grow it in a decorative cachepot for a formal living room and the position has been ideal. wide hybridisation resulting in an almost unlimited colour range is what keeps drawing me back to it. rest period in summer with focus on leaf and root growth was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: scale insects on pseudobulbs and undersides of leaves caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
