Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Vanda

People describe Vanda as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. watering by soaking the pot then letting it drain fully needs consistent attention and scale insects on pseudobulbs and undersides of leaves can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Vanda is genuinely underrated is the beauty. extraordinary bloom longevity lasting weeks to months is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a conservatory shelf with filtered light and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. peak bloom display through winter and spring is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
