The propagation success I didn't expect with Zygopetalum

I started with one Zygopetalum and now have four, all from propagation. The process is straightforward once you understand repotting into fresh bark medium every two or three years — something I picked up from trial and error rather than any guide.

I display them in a north or east-facing windowsill which shows off extraordinary bloom longevity lasting weeks to months at its best. rest period in summer with focus on leaf and root growth is when they're most impressive. aerial root desiccation in dry centrally heated rooms has been my main challenge across all of them, but it's manageable now that I know what to look for. A genuinely generous plant if you let it be.
