Six months with Zygopetalum — what I actually learned
I brought Zygopetalum home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding providing bright indirect light away from direct afternoon sun — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.
I grow it in a bright bathroom with natural humidity and the position has been ideal. pseudobulbs that store water and nutrients is what keeps drawing me back to it. triggering a new flower spike with cooler autumn nights was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: aerial root desiccation in dry centrally heated rooms caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
