Beginner success with Zygopetalum — here is what helped

As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Zygopetalum. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to watering by soaking the pot then letting it drain fully.

I grow mine in a conservatory shelf with filtered light which is working really well. spectacular flower forms that rival almost any plant was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. repotting best done just after flowering finishes has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring aerial root desiccation in dry centrally heated rooms, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
