Honest review: Areca Palm is rewarding but root bound decline in pots left too long without repotting is real
Areca Palm is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: root bound decline in pots left too long without repotting. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, instantly transformative architectural presence in any setting makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a Mediterranean or exotic themed garden border which suits it well. Learning about feeding with a palm-specific slow-release fertiliser in spring has been essential. cold weather protection needed in winter for tender varieties is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
