I don't have a garden so a sheltered sunny courtyard or walled garden is my only option for Date Palm. It absolutely works — with the right attention to planting in free-draining soil to prevent crown rot you can get excellent results in containers.

association with warmth and holiday destinations worldwide is fully achievable even in a pot. cold weather protection needed in winter for tender varieties is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: red palm weevil damage in warmer European regions. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
