I brought Sago Palm home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding feeding with a palm-specific slow-release fertiliser in spring — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.

I grow it in a poolside or coastal garden planting and the position has been ideal. long-lived structure that becomes more impressive over decades is what keeps drawing me back to it. cold weather protection needed in winter for tender varieties was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: root bound decline in pots left too long without repotting caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
