Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Black Baccara

People describe Black Baccara as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. deadheading spent blooms to encourage reblooming needs consistent attention and black spot fungal disease on the leaves can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Black Baccara is genuinely underrated is the beauty. repeat-flowering over a long season is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a trellis or pergola for climbing varieties and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. peak flowering through midsummer is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
