A year of growing Julia Child — detailed seasonal notes
Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Julia Child:
Spring: peak flowering through midsummer. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on deadheading spent blooms to encourage reblooming during this period which set up the rest of the year.
exceptional fragrance on warm afternoons developed steadily through the warmer months. rose dieback from hard winter frosts appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a trellis or pergola for climbing varieties performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
