The unexpected joy of growing Mr. Lincoln
I planted Mr. Lincoln without expecting much and it's become one of the most satisfying things in my garden. repeat-flowering over a long season is something I couldn't have predicted from looking at it in a nursery. You only understand it once the plant is established and performing.
I keep it in a cottage garden mixed planting with lavender which is perfect for it. deep watering at the base rather than overhead was the thing I got lucky getting right early. hips forming in autumn for wildlife interest stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. powdery mildew in humid summers is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
