The care secret that transformed my Forsythia

I'd had Forsythia for about eight months with acceptable but unremarkable results. Then I started really paying attention to watering in dry spells in the first two seasons after planting and the difference over the next two months was dramatic.

permanent woody structure providing year-round garden framework became much more pronounced. The plant in a formal clipped topiary or box hedge now looks like a completely different specimen. early spring flowering on bare branches before leaves appear confirmed that I'd finally unlocked what this plant can do. failure to flower when pruned at the wrong time has been less of a problem since I got the overall conditions right. If your Forsythia is underwhelming, look at watering in dry spells in the first two seasons after planting first.
