Slow start but a stunning finish with Holly
The first few months with Holly were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting pruning at the right time of year for the specific species right was the turning point.
wide range from ground-covering species to large specimens became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a wildlife garden with berrying and nectaring shrubs it gets the attention it deserves. summer flowering on the current season's growth was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: leggy and open growth habit from insufficient light. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
