The first few months with Hydrangea were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting watering in dry spells in the first two seasons after planting right was the turning point.

permanent woody structure providing year-round garden framework became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a mixed shrub border providing year-round structure it gets the attention it deserves. early spring flowering on bare branches before leaves appear was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: leggy and open growth habit from insufficient light. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
