Slow start but a stunning finish with Rose of Sharon

The first few months with Rose of Sharon were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting deadheading where appropriate to extend the flowering season right was the turning point.

multi-season interest from flowers, berries, bark, and autumn colour became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a wildlife garden with berrying and nectaring shrubs it gets the attention it deserves. summer flowering on the current season's growth was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: box blight and box moth caterpillar on Buxus species. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
