Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Hen and Chicks:

Spring: vivid stress colouring in full summer sun. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on providing at least six hours of bright indirect light during this period which set up the rest of the year.

wide range of colours from blue-grey to red developed steadily through the warmer months. root rot from overwatering and poor drainage appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a sunny windowsill in a terracotta pot performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
