Honest review: String of Pearls is rewarding but mealybug infestations in leaf crevices is real
String of Pearls is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: mealybug infestations in leaf crevices. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, wide range of colours from blue-grey to red makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in an office desk with a grow light which suits it well. Learning about watering only when the soil is completely dry has been essential. new offsets appearing around the base in spring is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
