Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Heliconia:

Spring: reduced watering rest period in winter. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on watering generously in summer and reducing in winter during this period which set up the rest of the year.

fast growth in warm humid conditions developed steadily through the warmer months. spider mite infestations in hot dry conditions appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a hotel lobby-style statement interior display performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
