Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Spinach

People describe Spinach as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser once flowering begins needs consistent attention and slug and snail damage on young seedlings can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Spinach is genuinely underrated is the beauty. full control over growing methods and chemical use is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a decorative potager with flowers and vegetables mixed and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. planting out and establishing after last frost is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
