Comparing Tomato varieties — notes from growing several
I've grown several varieties within the Tomato family and have some observations to share. full control over growing methods and chemical use varies noticeably between them, more than catalogue descriptions suggest. The care fundamentals are shared — feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser once flowering begins applies across all of them.
aphid colonies on brassicas and soft growth affects some more than others, particularly in adverse conditions. I grow mine in a raised bed in full sun with good-quality compost which works well for most varieties. clearing beds and preparing soil with compost in autumn is the clearest moment of differentiation between varieties — that's when the character of each comes through. Worth growing a few side by side if you have the space.
