I planted Passionflower at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. pruning at the wrong time removing next season's flower buds didn't help matters. Once I understood training new growth to the support structure while still flexible things improved substantially.

dramatic seasonal transformations from bare stems to full cover is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a tree stump or old structure being naturalised it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. autumn foliage colour on deciduous species before leaf fall redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
