Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Passionflower
People describe Passionflower as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. providing a robust support structure before planting needs consistent attention and slow establishment in the first season before taking off can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Passionflower is genuinely underrated is the beauty. dramatic seasonal transformations from bare stems to full cover is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a boundary wall or fence for screening and softening and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. bare structure in winter revealing the interesting stem framework is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
