I planted Virginia Creeper at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. support structure failing under the weight of mature growth didn't help matters. Once I understood feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser in summer to encourage flowering things improved substantially.

ability to soften hard architectural features naturally is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a boundary wall or fence for screening and softening it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. bare structure in winter revealing the interesting stem framework redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
