Honest review: Virginia Creeper is rewarding but pruning at the wrong time removing next season's flower buds is real

Virginia Creeper is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: pruning at the wrong time removing next season's flower buds. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.

Beyond that, vertical growing habit maximising space in small gardens makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a trellis panel as a garden divider which suits it well. Learning about training new growth to the support structure while still flexible has been essential. autumn foliage colour on deciduous species before leaf fall is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
