Started Wisteria at the wrong time — lessons learned

I planted Wisteria at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. slow establishment in the first season before taking off didn't help matters. Once I understood pruning at the correct season for the specific variety things improved substantially.

dramatic seasonal transformations from bare stems to full cover is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a trellis panel as a garden divider it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. peak flowering display in summer redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
