As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Black-eyed Susan. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds.

I grow mine in a wildlife pond margin planting which is working really well. naturalistic aesthetic that suits modern ecological gardens was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. cutting back meadow areas in autumn to remove thatch has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring rabbits and slugs targeting young seedlings, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
