I nearly gave up on Black-eyed Susan after three months of mediocre results. Then I focused properly on sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds and within a few weeks the difference was dramatic.

It now lives in a container with a meadow mix for a balcony and has genuinely transformed that spot. wide seasonal succession from spring to autumn is even more impressive in person than I expected from photos. cutting back meadow areas in autumn to remove thatch was spectacular — worth every bit of patience. If you're struggling with yours, sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds is almost certainly the issue.
